How A Vision Board Opens Your Life to New Possibilities
BY BONITA MOSLEY
I felt pretty skeptical about making my first Vision Board. I faithfully journal but, I knew a Vision Board exposed my dreams and desires. Did I want other people to see that? I wasn’t sure.
At the office store, a hardy poster board with a glittery border jumped out at me and I grabbed it. Right there, I stepped out of my comfort zone! But, as I went through the vision board training, I saw an amazing transformation happen. My board grew into an authentic picture of me, as a “visionary optimist.” I hung it on the wall, over my desk, in a small private room where I write. The glittery border turned out to be just right!
A Vision Board Shines on the Snippets of Your Life
I chose to make my first one on a sturdy poster board. The next one might be in a sketchbook, an art quilt, or a fold out screen. Whatever the shape, it will focus on my hopes and dreams for a better future. At the same time, it’s a snapshot of the genuine Me in the present, moving forward. It’s a collage of images and words that resonate with My desires. It’s completely original.
The process involves collaging colored paper, printed images, and words- three of my favorite things! Add some doodles, stickers and meaningful verses- Voila’! something very special. It sounds like a silly art project, but it’s much more enriching. The manifestation of one desire after another popped into my life from the board.
This is the verse I started my board with:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “ plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
The Vision Board acts as a visual reminder of what you want, where you want to go, what you want to become, and what your day should look like. You place it where you can see it as you work or pass by. It’s not magic, it’s a reminder. Every time you glance at it, your mind remembers how those words and images felt as expressions of your desires.
Then your mind goes to work to alert you to open doors, special sales, things being given away, and opportunities. Making a Vision Board is a steppingstone into a new world of faith and action. There are so many layers to visualizing that are exciting and sometimes a little scary. But, it’s such an interesting way to live!
Vision Boards are About Visualizing
I like Webster’s fourth definition of vision. The ability to perceive or foresee something, as through mental acuteness- then I laughed when it said- impractical- oh, well. In Webster’s time using your imagination was frowned upon.
Packed into visualizing are some of the most important life lessons. Learning how to dream big, leaving behind ordinary and embracing excellence. You become aware of the authentic you and know how to respond to your unique desires and dreams. Plus, you know when to shelter them and when to share them.
The powerful words and images that you choose for your board are carried into the rest of your life.
Let’s explore the realm of creativity, imagination and visualization through my articles to come, ok?
